Jeremiah in the Daily Office Lectionary

The Daily Office Lectionary appoints Jeremiah 43 times in its two-year course and 5 times on Holy Days. The course reads 31 of its 52 chapters, 6 of them in full.

Chapter by chapter

  • Year One reads chapters 1–18, 20, 22–26, 29, 31, 35–38, 44 during Lent, Holy Week, and the Season after Pentecost, at Morning Prayer.
  • Year Two reads chapters 23, 31 during Epiphany and Easter, at Morning Prayer.
Jeremiah chapters: both years 23, 31; Year One only 1–18, 20, 22, 24–26, 29, 35–38, 44; not in the two-year course 19, 21, 27–28, 30, 32–34, 39–43, 45–52; in part 2–18, 20, 22–23, 25–26, 29, 31, 44.
  • Year One only
  • Year Two only
  • Both years
  • Half filled: only part of the chapter
  • Not in the two-year course

When both offices have two lessons, “the Old Testament Reading for the alternate year is used as the First Reading at Evening Prayer” (BCP p. 934). This site and the app follow that rubric, so most of these lessons are heard twice: at Morning Prayer in the year listed, and at Evening Prayer on the same day in the other year.
