Jonah in the Daily Office Lectionary

The Daily Office Lectionary appoints Jonah 6 times in its two-year course. The course reads all of its 4 chapters, each in full.

Chapter by chapter

  • Year One reads chapters 2–4 during Epiphany and Easter, at Morning Prayer.
  • Year Two reads chapters 1–4 during Christmas and the Season after Pentecost, at Morning Prayer.
Jonah chapters: both years 2–4; Year Two only 1.
  • Year One only
  • Year Two only
  • Both years
  • Half filled: only part of the chapter
  • Not in the two-year course

When both offices have two lessons, “the Old Testament Reading for the alternate year is used as the First Reading at Evening Prayer” (BCP p. 934). This site and the app follow that rubric, so most of these lessons are heard twice: at Morning Prayer in the year listed, and at Evening Prayer on the same day in the other year.
