Numbers in the Daily Office Lectionary
The Daily Office Lectionary appoints Numbers 26 times in its two-year course and once on Holy Days. The course reads 18 of its 36 chapters, 5 of them in full.
Chapter by chapter
- Year One does not read it in the course.
- Year Two reads chapters 3, 6, 9–14, 16–17, 20–24, 27, 32, 35 during Easter and the Season after Pentecost, at Morning Prayer.
Numbers chapters: Year Two only 3, 6, 9–14, 16–17, 20–24, 27, 32, 35; not in the two-year course 1–2, 4–5, 7–8, 15, 18–19, 25–26, 28–31, 33–34, 36; in part 3, 6, 9–11, 13, 17, 21–23, 27, 32, 35.
- Year One only
- Year Two only
- Both years
- Half filled: only part of the chapter
- Not in the two-year course
When both offices have two lessons, “the Old Testament Reading for the alternate year is used as the First Reading at Evening Prayer” (BCP p. 934). This site and the app follow that rubric, so most of these lessons are heard twice: at Morning Prayer in the year listed, and at Evening Prayer on the same day in the other year.
