Gracelight vs Daily Office 2019

Start with your prayer book. Gracelight uses the Episcopal Church’s 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Daily Office 2019 presents prayer from the ACNA’s 2019 Book of Common Prayer. If your parish follows the 2019 book, Daily Office 2019 is the closer match today.

Match the prayer book your parish uses

An app can make a service easier to follow, but two prayer books stay two prayer books. Before choosing a reader, ask which edition your parish or prayer group uses, so you can pray from the same book they do.

These are separate projects. Gracelight, called Daily Office during its beta, is the app described here. Daily Office 2019 at dailyoffice2019.com is Benjamin Locher’s project for the ACNA prayer book.

Choose Gracelight for the 1979 book

Gracelight includes Rite I and Rite II for Morning and Evening Prayer, plus Noonday Prayer, Compline, and the four Daily Devotions for Individuals and Families. It is free, with no ads, subscription, or account.

Adjust the font, text size, and line spacing as you read. Lessons appear within the office in the Berean Standard Bible or another translation you choose, with YouVersion links for each reading. The prayers and the BCP Psalter work offline; Bible lessons need a connection the first time they load.

Choose Daily Office 2019 for the ACNA book

The project says it assembles the 2019 offices, scripture readings, and calendar so you can follow the service without looking each one up. If that is your book, begin there. We recommend it because it matches the prayer book, not because we have tested every feature of both apps.

Will Gracelight add the 2019 prayer book?

Support is planned, but Gracelight does not include the 2019 text yet. If you pray from the 2019 book, Daily Office 2019 is the better choice for now. We will update this page when that changes.
