2 Kings in the Daily Office Lectionary

The Daily Office Lectionary appoints 2 Kings 24 times in its two-year course and once on Holy Days. The course reads 16 of its 25 chapters, 4 of them in full.

Chapter by chapter

  • Year One reads chapters 1–2, 4–6, 9, 11, 17–25 during Easter and the Season after Pentecost, at Morning and Evening Prayer.
  • Year Two reads chapter 2 during Easter, at Evening Prayer.
2 Kings chapters: both years 2; Year One only 1, 4–6, 9, 11, 17–25; not in the two-year course 3, 7–8, 10, 12–16; in part 1–2, 4, 6, 11, 17–19, 21, 23–25.

When both offices have two lessons, “the Old Testament Reading for the alternate year is used as the First Reading at Evening Prayer” (BCP p. 934). This site and the app follow that rubric, so most of these lessons are heard twice: at Morning Prayer in the year listed, and at Evening Prayer on the same day in the other year.
