Wisdom in the Daily Office Lectionary
The Daily Office Lectionary appoints Wisdom 16 times in its two-year course and 4 times on Holy Days. The course reads 16 of its 19 chapters, 3 of them in full.
Chapter by chapter
- Year One reads chapters 1–10, 13–17, 19 during Holy Week and Easter, at Morning Prayer.
- Year Two reads chapter 7 during Christmas, at Morning Prayer.
Wisdom chapters: both years 7; Year One only 1–6, 8–10, 13–17, 19; not in the two-year course 11–12, 18; in part 3–4, 6–10, 13–17, 19.
- Year One only
- Year Two only
- Both years
- Half filled: only part of the chapter
- Not in the two-year course
When both offices have two lessons, “the Old Testament Reading for the alternate year is used as the First Reading at Evening Prayer” (BCP p. 934). This site and the app follow that rubric, so most of these lessons are heard twice: at Morning Prayer in the year listed, and at Evening Prayer on the same day in the other year.
The table allows Genesis to be read in place of some of these lessons.
