OFFICIANT

Send out your light and your truth, that they may lead me, and bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.

Psalm 43:3

OFFICIANT

O send out thy light and thy truth, that they may lead me, and bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling.

Psalm 43:3

Confession of Sin

OFFICIANT

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

OFFICIANT

Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God.

Silence may be kept.

Officiant and People together, all kneeling

ALL

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

ALL

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

Remain kneeling for the concluding prayer.

OFFICIANT

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

OFFICIANT

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant us absolution and remission of all our sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

ALL

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: O come, let us adore him.

Come, let us sing to the Lord; *

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *

and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, *

and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the caverns of the earth, *

and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it, *

and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, *

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God,

and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *

Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; *

let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *

and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, *

and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are all the corners of the earth, *

and the strength of the hills is his also.

The sea is his, and he made it, *

and his hands prepared the dry land.

O come, let us worship and fall down, *

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is the Lord our God, *

and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; *

let the whole earth stand in awe of him.

For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth, *

and with righteousness to judge the world and the peoples with his truth.

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: Come let us adore him.

ALL

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: O come, let us adore him.

Psalms 97, 99, [100]

Psalm 97Dominus regnavit

1

The LORD is King;

let the earth rejoice; *

let the multitude of the isles be glad.

2

Clouds and darkness are round about him, *

righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne.

3

A fire goes before him *

and burns up his enemies on every side.

4

His lightnings light up the world; *

the earth sees it and is afraid.

5

The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, *

at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6

The heavens declare his righteousness, *

and all the peoples see his glory.

7

Confounded be all who worship carved images

and delight in false gods! *

Bow down before him, all you gods.

8

Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice, *

because of your judgments, O LORD.

9

For you are the LORD,

most high over all the earth; *

you are exalted far above all gods.

10

The LORD loves those who hate evil; *

he preserves the lives of his saints

and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

11

Light has sprung up for the righteous, *

and joyful gladness for those who are truehearted.

12

Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, *

and give thanks to his holy Name.

Psalm 99Dominus regnavit

he is enthroned upon the cherubim;

let the earth shake.

2

The LORD is great in Zion; *

he is high above all peoples.

3

Let them confess his Name, which is great and awesome; *

he is the Holy One.

4

you have established equity; *

you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob."

5

Proclaim the greatness of the LORD our God

and fall down before his footstool; *

he is the Holy One.

6

Moses and Aaron among his priests,

and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, *

they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.

7

He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; *

they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them.

8

"O LORD our God, you answered them indeed; *

you were a God who forgave them,

yet punished them for their evil deeds."

9

Proclaim the greatness of the LORD our God

and worship him upon his holy hill; *

for the LORD our God is the Holy One.

The Lessons

The First Lesson

25And the fear of Judas and his kindred, and the dread of them, began to fall upon the nations round about them: 26and his name came near even to the king, and every nation told of the battles of Judas. 27But when king Antiochus heard these words, he was full of indignation: and he sent and gathered together all the forces of his realm, an exceeding strong army. 28And he opened his treasury, and gave his forces pay for a year, and commanded them to be ready for every need. 29And he saw that the money failed from his treasures, and that the tributes of the country were small, because of the dissension and plague which he had brought upon the land, to the end that he might take away the laws which had been from the first days; 30and he feared that he should not have enough as at other times for the charges and the gifts which he gave aforetime with a liberal hand, and he abounded above the kings that were before him. 31And he was exceedingly perplexed in his mind, and he determined to go into Persia, and to take the tributes of the countries, and to gather much money. 32And he left Lysias, an honorable man, and one of the seed royal, to be over the affairs of the king from the river Euphrates to the borders of Egypt, 33and to bring up his son Antiochus, until he came again. 34And he delivered to him the half of his forces, and the elephants, and gave him charge of all the things that he would have done, and concerning those who lived in Judea and in Jerusalem, 35that he should send an army against them, to root out and destroy the strength of Israel, and the remnant of Jerusalem, and to take away their memorial from the place; 36And that he should make strangers to dwell on all their coasts, and should divide their land to them by lot.

37And the king took the half that remained of the forces, and removed from Antioch, from his royal city,

the hundred and forty and seventh year; and he passed over the river Euphrates, and went through the upper countries.

38And Lysias chose Ptolemy the son of Dorymenes, and Nicanor, and Gorgias, mighty men of the king’s

Friends;

39and with them he sent forty thousand footmen, and seven thousand horse, to go into the land of Judah, and to destroy it, according to the word of the king. 40And they removed with all their army, and came and pitched near to Emmaus in the plain country.

41And the merchants of the country heard the fame of them, and took silver and gold exceeding much, with

fetters, and came into the camp to take the children of Israel for servants: and there were added to them the forces of Syria and of the land of the

Philistines.

Silence may be kept after each Reading.

A Song of Praise

Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers; *

you are worthy of praise; glory to you.

Glory to you for the radiance of your holy Name; *

we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

Glory to you in the splendor of your temple; *

on the throne of your majesty, glory to you.

Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim; *

we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

Glory to you, beholding the depths; *

in the high vault of heaven, glory to you.

Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; *

we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

Blessed art thou, O Lord God of our fathers; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou for the Name of thy Majesty; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou in the temple of thy holiness; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou that beholdest the depths, and dwellest between the Cherubim; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou on the glorious throne of thy kingdom; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou in the firmament of heaven; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

The Second Lesson

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:

“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man,

and He will dwell with them.

They will be His people,

and God Himself will be with them as their God.

4‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’

and there will be no more death

or mourning or crying or pain,

for the former things have passed away.”

5And the One seated on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are faithful and true.” 6And He told me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give freely from the spring of the water of life. 7The one who overcomes will inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son.

8But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”

Silence may be kept after each Reading.

A Song to the Lamb

The Song of Zechariah

Splendor and honor and kingly power *

are yours by right, O Lord our God,

For you created everything that is, *

and by your will they were created and have their being;

And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain, *

for with your blood you have redeemed for God,

From every family, language, people, and nation, *

a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

And so, to him who sits upon the throne, *

and to Christ the Lamb,

Be worship and praise, dominion and splendor, *

for ever and for evermore.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, *

for he hath visited and redeemed his people;

And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us *

in the house of his servant David,

As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, *

which have been since the world began:

That we should be saved from our enemies, *

and from the hand of all that hate us;

To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, *

and to remember his holy covenant;

To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham, *

that he would give us,

That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies *

might serve him without fear,

In holiness and righteousness before him, *

all the days of our life.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest, *

for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

To give knowledge of salvation unto his people *

for the remission of their sins,

Through the tender mercy of our God, *

whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us;

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, *

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
